San Marcos Hill Country capitalizes on miscues to defeat Faith Academy

The Faith Academy football team lost to San Marcos Hill Country 66-30 Sept. 15.
The Flames (2-2, Division II, District 3 of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) turn their attention to welcoming Austin Veritas at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, to Britton Field on the Faith Academy campus.
Against Hill Country, Faith quickly took a 6-0 lead when Carter Fromberg caught a four-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive. The play capped a six-play, 45-yard drive that took 2 minutes and 6 seconds to complete.
The Rams answered immediately thanks to Jonas West. The dual-threat quarterback ran for 15 yards on the first offensive play and weaved his way to the end zone on the second play that covered 21 yards for the touchdown. The two-point kick was good for an 8-6 Hill Country lead.
Faith drove 43 yards in nine plays for its next touchdown when Karter Van Gundy caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Houy to regain the lead 12-8 with 3:37 left in the first quarter.
On the Flames’ onside kick attempt, West picked up the ball and ran about 50 yards for the touchdown and the 16-12 lead.
Hill Country attempted and recovered its own onside kick attemptwhen the Flame mishandled the ball. Five plays later, Jonas West hit Conner West for the six-yard touchdown pass and the 22-12 lead with 1:34 left in the opening stanza.
The Flames needed four plays to go 44 yards for the touchdown. The drive ended when Fromberg caught the 17-yard touchdown pass to trim the deficit to 22-18.
Jonas West got the touchdown back when he scored from four yards out to cap a 34-yard drive in three plays for the 30-18 advantage with 8:35 left in the half.
Meanwhile, the Flames turned the ball over on downs on their final two possessions of the half. Hill Country added one more score, going 48 yards in eight plays. The drive ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Josh Tomsett for the 36-18 lead at the intermission.
The Rams outscored the Flames 16-6 in the third and 14-6 in the fourth.
